From the 7. – 13. December 2009
Copenhagen City Hall Square as part of Hopenhagen Live
Opening hour: monday – sonday from 12.00 – 20.00.
In December 2009, 80 mayors from all over the world meet at City Hall Square, Copenhagen for a summit where climate is at the top of the agenda.
Half the world’s population is now living in cities and the number is rapidly growing. Cities of the world are responsible for up to 75 % of global greenhouse gas emissions, so any solution to the climate crisis has to involve active participation from the cities.
Cities act!
Ten cities present some of the solutions which they have already implemented in the combat against climate change. Through their commitment, investments and actions these cities are setting an example with regard to developing and implementing innovative climate solutions in wind, water and solar energy, in waste and recycling, in transport and buildings. They have reduced and will continue to reduce significantly greenhouse gas emissions.
If the existing climate solutions of the cities were implemented worldwide, all cities would become more climate-friendly. This is FUTURE CITY!
The climate solutions of the cities not only have a beneficial effect on the environment but also provide better conditions for people living in the cities. A green city leads to a better life - for citizens of the cities and the world and for current and future generations.
It is crucial that YOU as a citizen in your city come along. Everybody can make a contribution, whether it be large or small, and everybody can make a difference. Without the citizens we can’t create lively, climate-friendly cities with space for a sustainable life.
